Smash It Up
Theatre and art project protesting cultural vandalism.

Smash It Up was a multi-layered artistic response to the demolition of the iconic Chartist Mural in Newport. Combining theatre, public performance, an exhibition, and film, the project interrogated the politics of cultural memory, heritage, and erasure.
Angry yet playful, it questioned who decides what is preserved and what is destroyed, and how communities can resist cultural vandalism. The theatre production, nominated by Amnesty International, toured nationally and provoked lively debate about the value of public art and collective identity.
Produced by Das Clarks in 2016. Included an exhibition, lecture, short film, and Amnesty International–nominated theatre show. Supported by Arts Council Wales.
