Brief History of Difference

Autobiographical show exploring identity and difference.

Dar looking straight into camera, holding frames and a lot of ambiguous objects

Performed by non-professional artists sharing their own stories. Themes include identity, access, and difference. Presented at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2024. Supported by Arts Council Wales and toured nationally.

Brief History of Difference is an autobiographical theatre production created with people who had never performed before. The piece explores Deafness, queerness, neurodivergence, and social class — themes that shape identity and community but are often overlooked in mainstream theatre.

Blending humour, honesty, and vulnerability, the show invites audiences to confront assumptions about difference and to listen to voices too often left out of cultural conversations. Its success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe highlighted the power of authentic storytelling, while its ongoing tour continues to challenge and inspire audiences across the UK.
